Chris Hynes
Coach Chris Hynes is a native of the Houston area basketball scene. Growing up he played for notable programs such as: Houston Select, Houston Hoops, RL9, Top Guns, and West Houston Warriors.
A graduate from historic Fort Bend Willowridge High School; Coach Chris was an all-district player in arguably one of the most talented districts in the world at the time featuring: Danuel House, Aaron Harrison, Andrew Harrison, Kelly Oubre, Cameron Ridley, Shawndre Jones, Christian Crockett, Branford Jones, Chance Allen, and Bralon Addison. Along with others like Joe Young and Sheldon
McClellan at his prior high school.
Coach Chris then went on to play his college ball at LeTourneau University. Upon concluding his playing career, he was granted an opportunity to be on the coaching staff. During his time as coach LETU went from the bottom of the ASC and no all-conference players -- to making the conference tournament for only the 3rd time in school history and having 5 all-conference players (including freshman of the year/newcomer of the year/and PG was 3rd in nation in assists).
After completing a year of coaching, Coach Chris was immediately offered a top assistant job at an NAIA college, however he turned it down in order to create his own company, ‘The Next Step Player Development’ and to continue to study the game at a deeper level. Learning mainly from pro skills coach Drew Hanlen, Tim Martin, Phil Handy, and DJ Sackmann. As a player development coach, Coach Chris has worked with players of all levels from pro to grade school. Coach Chris has now even trained former players who are now college coaches: Jeff Martin Jr, assistant coach at St John’s University in the Big East basketball conference. Coach CJ Edwards, Head Coach at Lane Community College.
Coach Chris runs one of the best basketball camps in the state of Texas presented by OTR Exposure that features the best talent in the state through all ages. There have been
McDonalds All Americans and multiple NBA draft picks who have come through the camps. Coach Chris has also served as one of the main coaches for John Lucas Enterprises and his national camp series for boys and girls in grassroots that bring in the top players across the nation. Through these camps, along with his training company ‘The Next Step,’ Coach Chris has exclusively trained and served thousands of high caliber collegiate and professional level players. His methods have proven to yield results and get the most out of his players. Coach Chris prides himself on making sure he studies the game at the deepest and most accurate level possible. When players have problems, he feels good coaches can identify the problem, but great coaches can fix the problem. Coach Chris has a solution based approach to coaching and training. He believes firmly in game skills and putting players in game like situations/scenarios so that when the game comes players are comfortable and can find success. Making a player feel more confident is THE most important key to success, so as a coach doing whatever’s necessary to help is what Coach Chris strives to do!
